Snow Mountain Ranch/YMCA of the Rockies
Near Granby and close to the Winter Park ski area, Snow Mountain Ranch offers an assortment of snowshoeing opportunities. Free, guided snowshoe hikes on the ranch are available by reservation. A groomed trail for jogging or snowshoeing is available and animals are welcome on that trail.
Devil’s Thumb Ranch
North of Fraser, Devil’s Thumb provides trails of varying difficulty that wind through forested hillsides and across open meadows. Snowshoe-only trails and snowshoeing on cross-country trails are available.
Grand Lake Village
Grand Lake is home to many quiet snowshoe trails with breathtaking views. The Grand Lake Golf Course, the hiking trails around Lake Granby and Shadow Mountain Lake, and the Shadow Mountain canal are perfect for beginners with their gentle slopes and easy access. Trail maps are available at the Grand Lake Visitor Center.
Rocky Mountain National Park
The 2-mile Harbison Meadow loop, starting at the Harbison picnic area, begins in a meadow, traverses through a wooded area and follows the river. Good for beginning snowshoers, the trail is 2 miles from the Kawuneeche Visitor Center.
Grand County is approximately 75 miles northwest of Denver on the western slope of the Continental Divide and is accessible by Amtrak.
